limewire is not really illegal it is just the stuff you download that is illegal but its really stupid because everyone knows about limewire and if it was illegal then computer companies would have made it so that their computers don't allow you to add limewire..

i hardly ever use it anymore, what about Jimmyr?

Dude, the program isn't illegal. It is what you are doing with it that is illegal. Downloading music for free (if the label put it out for a charge) is illegal, and it is stealing, and that doesn't matter what sharing euphemism you apply to it.

Funny, I just had this convo over the weekend.

I'm not a P2P guy any longer, but yeah - it's what you're downloading that makes it legal/illegal. If you're downloading tutorials that are free, you're good to go. Music? Movies? Yeah, illegal.

downloading copyrighted material is illegal...not the program its self

Then how come they don't shut down Torrents? I just found out about torrents and they're amazing.

Limewire, however, I tried in the past and had trouble with (read: Virii-related stuff). Nevermore for me.

Again, not all torrents are illegal. Plenty of people get Linux distros and other non-copyrighted material there.

I found this amusing.

Cousin: How do I get limewire?
Me: Uhh... google limewire and download it.
Cousin: Do I say I'm going to use it for copyright infringement?
Me: No, you don't say that.
Cousin: Thanks Craig!!!

>_<

If she was on a pc I would have forebode?/ forbade? her. I told her she shouldn't be using it anyways but she didn't seem to care.

I'd say mostly illegal. Yeah...

Anyways... haha

Downloading software from torrents is a lot quicker then downloading it another way. Some software you can buy online, then they email you the torrent and can download it. Also as stated above, a lot of Linux software is provided through torrents. This is not illegal/immoral/stealing/whatever. Programs like Limewire or Azureus are not illegal or even bad. It is what you do with the program. If you use it to obtain software or music that you do not have the license for, this is where the problem is.

Limewire is the most illegally used program out there.
Why would you want to use it anyways???
The only reason I would want to would be to screw up my computer.
Dude, just stick with torrents, they are way faster and don't mess up your computer.

What are torrents?

They're like limewire, but better.
This is kinda hard to explain so I'm not gonna go into much detail.
First you download the torrent software (utorrent[dot]com) and then you can download the actual torrents from sites like thepiratebay[dot]com and mininova[dot]com.
I sometimes download movie scripts for road trips to relive the experience of being at the movie theater.

i used to be a P2P guy, not so much anymore, but LimeWire still sits in my application folder. Now its iTunes Store or retail most of the time. Although I need to use a P2P program when iTunes doesn't have the song your after and you can't find it in retail.

Contrary to most of the posts here, downloading is not illegal (at least not in the UK). All of the prosecutions have been for sharing music. It is illegal to do that
