I just called our local Apple store and asked if we could only purchase ONE iPad tomorrow. He was very vague and said he didn't know.

Has anyone heard?

I need to pick up TWO.

It's never been less than two and people have posted that there will not be a limit.

Launch day limit of 2 according to an Apple rep at my local store. Beginning Saturday, you can buy as many as you want.

Also, I heard that the Apple stores will be closed until 5pm, is that correct?

Closing at 3pm, re-opening at 5pm

For the original iPad 3G it was 4pm and the stores had a hard enough time dealing with angry customers who wanted stuff other than the iPad or who had computer issues. I was amazed at all the people who would show up and yell at staff because they weren't allowed in the store.
The 3pm is just too early. I think it will cause too many problems.

You have to remember, the Geniuses have not played with the device at all prior to the closing. That gives them 2 hours to learn the ins and outs of the devices, as well as be able to teach customers about the product.

Besides, you're not too wise if you arrive at an Apple store that close to the launch of iPad 2 expecting everything to be normal.
