Hi there, new to macs, but not computers.

I have an older Mac that I use for work (imac late 2006)

I realize I need to buy a new one, but am not in a position to buy one for several months.

My main graphics card died. It is modular, but replacement still runs roughly $350 so it is not an option.

I have disabled the NVidia kexts and the system failed over to the GPU which I guess is integrated in the CPU. I understand that there will be limitations to this, but I am curious as to how much functionality I can restore.

I can live without most animation and video, but the most functionality that I miss is the power save mode.

Currently when it goes into power save the keyboard and mouse go unresponsive, but the screen stays as is. If I click on my mouse, it comes back to life like it is waking up, but the screen never really changes. I turned on the screen saver which will load a black backlit screen.

Does anyone have any experience with this or can point me to a resource to learn more about kexts?
