Limited Safari Seedings

It appears that Apple has reinstated its Safari Seeding program -- at least to a select number of participants.

In an email, testers are warned that discussion of the new Safari seeds and features outside of Apple hosted forums may result in legal consequences to the people involved.

Safari's seed program was terminated in March due to the widespread availability Safari builds amongst the internet community.

Regardless of what Apple says, there will still be leaks...

OTOH, I'm perfectly happy with v74, but I guess some people will want the latest and greatest.

I would have preffered nightly builds released downloadable from the developers page or something. But alas this aint gonna happen.

I hope nobody recks it for everyone else this time. Not that I'm a developer or anything. I would however like to know what the current built is, so I hope those with these new builds can give us some tidbits, not uploading it to their servers and distributing it willy nilly like before.

Top missing features?!...

What are people's top favourite missing features in Safari, build 74? That's something I'd like to see answered here. Personally, I really want Safari to have a 'load images' button, like OmniWeb has. Right now, for just plain surfing, OmniWeb is rapidly becoming the greatest browser for the Mac. Again. The only features it really misses are tabbed browsing and auto-fill. But other than that, OW rules. I really like how I can actually customise the toolbar, unlike with Safari, which only offers me the options of turning some buttons on or off. Oh, and I really miss bookmark seperators in Safari. Bring 'em on already, please!

I agree on OmniWeb being nice..... but it's shareware. As there are a couple of gr8 free-browsers out there for OS X, I am not willing tp pay for one.

Missing Features

Okay, missing features: my beef is the lack of ability in the bookmark-browser to sort alphabetically. It's the only app that has an iTunes-like catalog that you can't manipulate by clicking the headers (and why aren't there more of those? date added, containing Java, site last updated, etc.?)

i think apple should encode something for each person in the safari build. so they can download a leaked copy and see who it belonged too. maybe easier said than done, or it already be there.

Why would this bit of news cause Apple to shut down Safari seeding program again? It's the leak of the seeds themselves that Apple is concerned about and doesn't want to see happen.

i was guilty of downloadinhg leaked versions in the past, but only so i could have tabs. they're really helpful. im not going to do so anymore. tabs have satisfied me

Yeah, I did download the leaked versions, even though I did feel guilty. But tabs were sooooo cool.

I was perfectly happy with the previous public beta.
I was already able to do online banking on Bank of America.
I can login, transfer funds, no problem.
But with this new release, I can't transfer funds anymore.
Not because I can't login, but because the buttons in the left-hand side simply "disappear".
While the same page displays fine in Navigator.
I am thinking it might be a JavaScript problem.
Does anyone here use Bank of America online banking, too?
I'd like to see some confirmation.

this is good news. the more beta testers safari has, the better the guys over @ apple can make safari for the 1.0 release, whenever that is.

IMO, all that's left are some rendering bugs and some polish around the edges and this puppy will be officially 1.0

OW itself is pretty, and I like the feature set. Only problem is it's compatibility. It is terribly far behind in CSS compliance (more along the lines of Netscape 4.x) and has other issues like how it deals with tables. It also has tons of problems with scripts like drop pop-up menus working at all. Simple sites I make in Dreamweaver don't work or view correctly. The same sites have no problems in IE, Safari, Chimera. I can't seem to use omniweb for more than 15 minutes before I run into a site I know it's displaying incorrectly. mcaiatlanta.org for example. None of the links disply their underline when you mouse over them. Another example... macmall.com where on the main menu items the pop-up menu items display in the upper left hand corner of the screen instead of underneath.

This browser is crap. I has horrible CSS support, it has horrible scripting support, and to top it off, it doesnt' even have tabs. You can think it's pretty an all, but I'm pretty sure development stopped on this thing about 2 years ago. Nothing has changed since then. Nothing. Don't sent these folks any money for crying out loud!

Safari is already a fantastic app. It's the best application Apple has come out with for a long time and the rapid progress on it has been nothing short of remarkable.

I don't understand Apple's secrecy policy on this - especially when you can get the inside scoop from David Hyatt's weblog!

The only beef I've had with every build of Safari is the inability to login to access my msn mail account. Sounds lame, but it's the address I use to sign up for forums. Keeps the spam in one place.. They fix that, and I'll ditch every other browser I have.

I experienced disappearing content when I first installed v74. I thought it was a major problem, but logging out and then back in solved the problem. I'm assuming you've logged out since you installed Safari? You may need to even go as far as restarting. Or maybe this isn't even the problem you're having.
