Is there a way to just dl the last 3 months (IE) of email?
I have a client with bazillions of emails that he'd never be able to get thru now. Besides, he's a mail hoarder.
But of course it slows down everything.
Is there a way to date limit what is dl'd, not just seen or available but actually dl'd?
He has a gmail acct and a MSX acct.

I believe both Gmail and Microsoft Exchange only support syncing messages on the server with the client. Basically, if you only want the last 3 months of emails, you'll need to delete or archive all emails prior to the last 3 months.

what you say rings a bell. I believe you are right. Darn the Luck ! ! !

there are other minor things not so hot about Mail. but none so bad as what happened to iTunes/Music app.
that was given to a colony of feral cats in Quiencenera dresses to develop.
But, alas, Apple is a phone and streaming company.

I thought the iTunes/Music development was done by naked mole rats raised by lemurs in a uranium mine.

Will need to check Gmail later, but in case of Exchange, should be an option under Mail > Accounts > account > Mail Days to Sync.

(Seem to recall Gmail might be a server side setting; Screen shot is setup as an Exchange account)

Archive mails outside of the mail client. You can wait for EagleFiler 2.0 (so it will be Apple Silicon native) or you might try looking at MailSteward.
