Well there was 1 elderly gentleman in AT&T but about 500 at apple. Different people in different cities said there was virtually no line at AT&T. It seems to me that the whole "only selling preorders on iday" was a bunch of bs.

You sure it wasn't for AT&T preorders? AT&T specifically stated they will not sell non-preorders until next Tuesday, 6/29. You might be waiting for nothing.
I had 4 people waiting at my att store at 7am, and one guys iphone is coming in at 3pm. There was some problem with my phone upgrade being "parked" or something. It took them a while to figure out and fix (20 min), then it activated right away and I was on way.
My brother on the other hand is #75ish in the walk in line at apple (theyre saying its as long as 4-500 people now?)... and he said theyre not taking any walk in orders untill 10 am.
oh and yeah att is only giving away pre-ordered iphones today

I was 1st in line at our store in the Woodlands, TX. Got there just before six. I was activated and out the store by 7:15
