Yes I know my shiz iz a bit outdated. But here's my problem.
I'm trying to record some stuff, and obviously the internal mic sucks, so I'm trying to use my external. But it's not appearing on the comp. It's a decent mic, but the audio recorded in Audacity is no better than with the internal mic!

I was reading on a forum somewhere to change the sound preferences to Line-In, but it's not there! Just the default internal mic. Is there a driver or something I'm missing here?

If the option for line-in is not there in the System Preferences it could be either a software or hardware problem. All drivers needed are usually installed along with the operating system, you (usually) won't find any separately downloadable drivers for integrated hardware. Try rebooting and/or reinstalling the OS.

After that there is also the issue of connecting your mic to your computer. If the line-in and mic have different impedancies you most likely won't get a good signal out of it without a pre-amp.
