Hi,

Yesterday (and many, many times before), I was using my line-in to do a recording using my condenser microphone. Today, when I plugged my cable into the line-in input, my music program showed that the input volume was maxed, despite me not having made any sounds. I double checked in the system preferences, and it was showing a maxed out signal as well.

I then opened garageband, and with the mic plugged in (or any 3.5 mm plug), the computer made an awful repeated clipping noise.

What exactly could be going on? Is there a fix for this?

By the way - 2009 macbook, 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 800 MHz Ram

Try repeatedly plugging and unplugging the cord.
