Line Out Audio??

XP Pro SP2 on MacPro 2.66ghz

I have a simple stereo speaker set up to my macpro connected to the Line Out to the speakers, i get audio out of it them XP, HOWEVER in addition i also get audio coming out of the MacPro built in Speaker...is there a way to change that?
so the audio only comes out of the connected stereo speakers and not th ebuilt in?

in OSX (im running 10.4.10) and it does not happen, i select line out and it only plays Line Out (my speakers and not via the built-in speaker)
