I was at my local Apple store earlier today and there were two guys already waiting outside for the new iPhone. An Apple employee was setting up the rope for a line. haha. crazy. I should have taken a photo, but I didn't want to look like a geek taking photos of the Apple store in the middle of the mall.

makes no sense especially with online ordering at apple and at&t. must be nice to have nothing better to do!

I already know of five friends and co-workers here in San Diego headed to buy an iPhone 3G (not the new S model) for $99. Perhaps there are lines forming for that?

I'll be camping out too...

...at home... by the mailbox... for the 3GS that I just preordered.

Haha

Hahahahaha, check NYC's Fifth Avenue store!! There are 150 people already!!

LMFAO

To me that's just not smart.

The real cost of the phone is the data plan, not the up front hardware cost. $100 extra for a much better phone that will cost you almost a $1000 per year in voice and data costs is well worth it to me.

I think you might be right.

Haha!!!! nice. :D
I hope the mailman doesn't freak out when you run up to him. :D

EXCELLENT point !!! The difference is only $100 and you are going to have the phone for 24 months. I think the main reason for the $99 phone is that they don't want people who are at Best Buy or AT&T shopping for a new phone to view the iPhone as "the expensive phone." Yeah, the monthly service is expensive, but when customers are looking at the price tags on the phones at Best Buy and AT&T, at least they'll give it more consideration. Plus, teenagers will be able to say "Mom! It's only $99 ! the Pre is and Blackberry are $199 !"

My girlfriend's brother is currently standing with more than a dozen people in Portland waiting to buy an iPhone 3G at an AT&T store. He says it's taking a while because most are switching to AT&T.

To me that's just not smart.

I agree. But I think most people buying the $99 phone are coming from flip-phones or the equivalent - they'll all be happy - especially when the phone gets better over the next few months with 3.0 and AT&T activating MMS.
