LinkedIn - what is a 'Pending Invitation'?

I don't use LinkedIn much and am confused by the language. Is "Pending invitation" an invitation I've made to someone else that is pending their acceptance, or that someone else has asked to be linked to me and it's pending my acceptance?

I'm confused!

Oh dear. That pending invitation is from someone I really, really don't want to have anything to do with me!

Thanks for the clarification.

Then reject it (which comes up as 'don't accept') and - if you don't wish to have anything further to do with the individual - block the person.

You can also simply ignore it.
