My mum occasionally uses my laptop for work stuff when she goes abroad, and she asked me if i could put music on there. Most of the stuff she wants is the same that i have, so i thought i would just link it. I have done this before on my G5 with an external HDD.

I unlocked all the permissions so her profile can access it, but when i change where the file is located and press ok, it does nothing. This is on my iBook G4 and iTunes 7.0.2

Not sure what you mean by this, can you expand?

It sounds like what you have is the following:
Files are in the Music folder of your account
Want to access them in itunes from a different account.

You say you have changed permissions so they can be accessed by the other account, therefore you should just be able to use the "Add to Library" option in itunes, direct it to the appropriate folder and all the songs should be added to her iTunes library.

i thoguht that if you went add to library, it would copy the music and therefore kill my 40GB HDD! Thanks, problem solved
