I've got a few Mac's and was wondering if linking them using Xgrid would really reduce render times in Final Cut? The big snag that I see is that I think I have to have OSX Server installed on one which is expensive.

Has anyone tried this and seen much faster renders?

Cheers!

Mike

You can install FCS on multiple systems and use apple qmaster to do distributed renders over the network, no server needed. You will need to have multiple FCS licenses though, a unique license for each machine that you want to render.

More info here:

This solution only works for Maya, Shake and Compressor renders, not renders within FCP.
