My airport extreme has been dying, so I decided to buy a Linksys WRT54GS. I set the router up and it works throughout the majority of the house but there are a few dead spots that require a Airport express to be placed in the basement.

I googled information of how to connect the Express to the linksys router, but my linksys configuration manager does not have a section for WDS. I did a firmware upgrade to the router but still unable to find the WDS section. I tried everything possible through the airport express.

Anyone have any information what I am doing wrong? I pretty much tried all the links I found on google and still had no luck. I am about to punt the router across the room.

You can change the firmware to something like Tomato. That definitely has WDS. ( and tomato still comes with a nice gui, unlike other (more powerfull?) alternative firmwares.
Btw. I run tomato and it works great. Look here for more info.
