I no longer subscribe to Linus Tech Tips (I left during that gamernexus video), though I'll watch a video once in a while. Additionally various tech channels come through my feed, every so often I'll see someone who used to be from LTT. Looks like in the past couple years they lost a lot of the core people who helped build the channel to what is now.
The latest seems to be Alex who had done much of the fabrication and engineering for LTT. He posted the video below on him actually getting fired,
its an interesting video where he also talks about how damaging the GamerNExus video was to LTT's media empire, so much so he states they never fully recovered from, in both sponsors, and views.
While its understandable that employees come and go, I think some of what Alex stated about getting too large too fast, and then reorganizing has had some unforeseen consequences. His biggest gripe, was early on he was doing so much different things, that it was exciting, but at the end, he was just a writer, which overall seems to be a poor fit for him, as he was an engineering student before joining LTT.
From the LTT videos I have watched, they are lacking a lot personality, and instead relying too much on Linus, it seems its more him, and less of an ensemble where the diverse personalities made for some good videos. The channel seems to be a bit bland, the. same type of stuff over and over with Linus trying to be zany.
Also it looks like they closed down a number of different channels, including Mac Address, TechQuickie, GameLinked. I'm not surprised by the Mac and Game ones. LTT is such a PC centric/anti-apple channel, I don't think Mac Address really gained traction and the gamelinked channel just didn't make sense to me. TechQuickie is surprising because I thought it was filling a need, but maybe their shortcircuit channel occupies the same topics and demographics.
Jake left, and looks like his channel is brand new
Emily Young (many of the videos, he was known as Anthony).
Taren also left, though he seemed more background talent, but he was in a number of TechQuickie/Short circuit videos.
