Hey guys,

I want to run linux on my 'iSight' G5 iMac and was wondering where to start. What distributions should I look for, which interfaces. That sort of thing! Links would be great!

Also, is there any free app that will allow me to make bootable CD's?

Any help/oppinions will help!

You can make a bootable CD with Disk Utility...just mount the image and burn

I suggest that you try yellow dog linux

Yellow Dog is Red Hat-based distro, and Red Hat usually comes up when people relatively new to Linux are looking for a distro to try. I believe that Ubuntu and Gentoo also have PPC builds available.

I haven't used Linux on a Mac in a long time, so I don't know how they perform, but I've used Ubuntu on a PC before and think it's a great option for someone who might be new to Linux. Gentoo, however, might be a little daunting for someone new to Linux.

Can anyone else speak to the performance of Ubuntu vs Yellow Dog on something like a G5?
