Linux on MBP 3,1 (2007)

Which linux distro and which version would run smoothly on a 2007 MBP with a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT (https://everymac.com/systems/apple/...k-pro-core-2-duo-2.4-17-santa-rosa-specs.html) and in not too difficult to set up for a complete linux beginner (i.e. me)?

I'd say give Ubuntu or Mint a try. Both are easy to use and setup.
