Are there any relatively modern linux distributions that will support Radeon X1900 G5 Mac edition (mine is mac original, not flashed)? Neither Fienix nor Chimera Linux support this card. Nor does any modern Debian builds that I know of. I'm looking for a relatively modern environment that can run KDEnlive.

X1900 G5 Mac edition graphics card is not supported with big-endian powerpc linux.
It is not question of distribution, but radeon kernel module.

X1900 with PC bios normally works with BE linux, but G5 edition or flashed one not.

In my Powermac G5 quad I am using:
1. x16 slot: X1900 G5 Mac edition - for OSX and MorphOS
2. x8 slot: HD6670 - linux ( should be specified in xorg.conf.d/ with correct PCI address )

Probably the fastest 1-slot BE linux supported card is ATI FirePro V7900. But I am not tested it yet.
Most powerful BE linux card is 2-slot Radeon HD 6970. Tested and works.

I have a spare GeForce 6600LE. If I put that in the 8x slot and hooked one of my two monitors to it, do you think it would work? Or would it just try to use the Radeon in the 16x slot?

Just as a follow up, here is my neofetch output showing both cards.

You'll notice the x1900's fan will stay running if you boot in to Linux. To cure this, boot in to tiger or leopard first, then reboot in to Linux and the fan will stay silent.

Cheers
