Hey all!

I'm looking for some good Linux video converters (ex. .avi to .mp4 [h264 would be nice, not necessary]) and DVD rippers and burners.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Distro being used is Kubuntu 8.04 with KDE 4 or Fedora 9 again KDE 4

Many thanks!

The distro and desktop environment does not really matter on GNU/Linux you can use most programs as long as you have the supporting libraries available. For the burning K3B don't know if this has been ported to KDE4 yet but you can run KDE3 apps along side it and its the best there is IMHO. Video conversion/editing you may want to check out Avidemux2 for the ripping either AcidRip or DVDRip with maybe K9copy for shrinking down dual layer to single disk. If wanting to do make DVDs then look at Qdvdauthor. Almost all of these things can be done from the command line as well with programs such as ffmpeg and mencoder with the burning done by cdrecord along with using the Tovid scripts to make DVDs.
