I have a macbook with Snow Leopard and use Microsoft Word and Excel 2008.. If I put on Lion would I be able to use the Mac 2008 Word and Excel? If I had some old files of the older version of Word and Excel would I be able to open them if I had Lion?

Hi there, should be no problem with this - Office 2004 won't run as it's a Rosetta programme, but 2008 should have no problems. And you'll be able to open older .doc and .xls files fine.

But someone with 2008 running on Lion might come along and confirm this 100% as I'm running 2011.

I have seen comments that while Office 2008 & 2011 can indeed reside in harmony on the same volume, it is to be noted that even though Office 2008 does not require Rosetta, the Office 2008 Installer does in fact require Rosetta.

If that is true, It is probably best to ensure Office 2008 is installed prior to installing Lion.

I have not verified this, so perhaps others can shed additional light-
