I created a Lion Boot DVD from the download from the Mac App Store.

Recently purchased a refurbished Mac Mini 2.4 2010 model, and wanted to do a clean install. It boots fine, but the install stops at the point in the picture, then the time left on teh installation keeps increasing. It was like that for over an hour so I canceled it and tried again but am getting the same result.

Not sure if you have done this but make sure you create the bootable DVD using the installESD.dmg image. Did you erase the HD from Disk Utility first?

Yep, did both of those things.

I gave up and re-installed Snow Leopard from scratch and upgraded immediately to Lion, so that is as close to a clean install as I will get.
