Lion kept getting stuck on booting with selection of mac hdd

please advice how to fix this ?

i ran the startup disk but it does not work
i ran disk utility and permission fix but it does not work

You need to give us more information. Which mac are you trying to run and what year was it manufactured?

If you put the OS X boot disk that came with the machine into the dvd drive and turn the machine on while holding down the option key what happens... and can you select the dvd to boot from?

Just curious if you're getting the same thing I am. Spinning gear hangs. If you hold down the power button and then restart, does it finally go? Try booting with Command + V and watch what it says. Mine was hanging at running fsck. Still is actually. Might need to rebuild I think. I'm running a MacBook Pro.
