Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the whole point of Blu-ray is that it uses a different laser (or whatever) reader to pull data from the discs... something that isn't in any Macs? Not really sure why you were able to play them in the first place on Snow Leopard.
 
Blu-Ray discs require a BD ROM in order to be readable just because it was a self burnt disc doesn't mean it will be readable on a MacBook's superdrive. Especially since Blu-Ray discs use a blue laser diode as opposed to a red one like on DVD.
