When sorting files by kind in Finder, Lion lists mkv files as documents. Any idea how to change the category for this??

Because they are not playable in QuickTime X, Lion lists them as a "Document". There is currently no way to change this.

ok, thank you. hopefully Apple will give us access to this metadata so we can get things organized a little bit better.

I have mkv files set to open in MPlayerX and all of my mkv files are sorted as "video media."

I don't know for sure if the program you have the files set to open with is what changes the "kind" label or not, but that's how it appears for me. (I just set all mkv files to open with VLC, and they were still labeled as "video media.")

Maybe Perian install makes the difference? I've no clue otherwise. :)

I feel like that may have to do with MPlayer being in the App store (VLC is not).
