Hi all,

Spilled a liquid on Macbook M1. Claimed under apple care + and quoted about 1600 in repair (of course restricted to 259 euros) at ASC.

Parts being replaced are : Touch Id, Battery, Board I/O, Display Assembly, Logic Board, Audio Board, Speaker Pair, Trackpad, Vent Antenna Module, Cable eDP.

One of the term is future damage may arise from corrosion etc. Given this, I asked why dont they replace the machine as cost is 1600e. They do not have this policy of replacement for M1 as per ASC.

I called apple and they said, they find it odd that such an extensive repair is performed and ASC is not offering a replacement. They want to send it to Czech republic and see what they say.

Anyone has experience what is usual practice. I find it off that they ready to spend 1600 and not offer perhaps a refurbished M1 in replacement.

In my experience, they do exactly as quoted to you - replace all affected or possibly-affected components, and will only offer a replacement full device at THEIR option - not yours. This is in accordance with the repair T&C and the AppleCare+ T&C.

You can provide feedback at www.apple.com/feedback but ultimately, if you have a broke machine and you end up with a non-broke machine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don't see a problem.

Of course, it is their decision. Perhaps you did not read. ASC vs Apple views differ. My query is for the usual approach by Apple.

Plus it is loss loss as Apple is spending 1600 on a machine worth possible 600-700 now. I may lose in case there is a future issue. Economic sense is not much.

ASC's opinion doesn't matter, just Apple's.

Apple will not "Spend" $1,600 on the repair, that's what you would pay if it were not a covered repair.
