Here is my issue (this is a Macbook Pro 7,1)
  1. I spilled coffee (about 1/3 of a cup) pretty much all over the keyboard.
  2. I immediately turned off the machine by hard pressing the power button.
  3. Left it off for 48 hours.
  4. I took the Macbook Pro a part to try to clean all of the components, I used alcohol and cotton swabs to carefully clean the components. I used a number of guides online and used the right tools to take my machine apart.
  5. I put all of the components back together and tried to turn the machine on and I got nothing.
Some key points:
  1. I cleaned the keyboard (and backlight) with alcohol (I'm not sure if I should have cleaned the back light)
  2. I was able to short the power pads on the logic board to turn the machine on. This tells me that the logic board is not completely fried (but I could be wrong about this).
  3. Once on, the computer did boot (in Safe Mode), the keys did work (I was able to put in my password), the trackpad works, but there is no backlight when I turn on the machine. So this tells me that the power button on the keyboard was broken.
  4. I connected all components and tried to manually press (taking off the back cover) the power button...Nothing.
My questions:
  1. Even though most of the keys work, do I still need to replace the entire keyboard?
  2. Should I have not wiped the back light clean with an alcohol swab?
  3. Where can I buy a keyboard and backlight?
  4. The screen seems to have a rolling flicker at times, does that mean that there's something else wrong with the machine?
Thanks for all of your help. Ask me anything, and I'll post edits.
