My XS had the dreaded toilet plunge. I am drying it out now. It is covered by AppleCare+ for another two months.
Are there any tests or diagnostics I can run to see if it has been or is likely to be damaged? I understand that repair/replacement for accidental damage is $99 while covered by AC+, so the worst case for me would be if problems start to show up in more than two months.

Just let it dry out and then use it as you would normally. You'll soon find out if there is any short term damage. Long term damage is another matter though. It may take a while for other damage to show up. Might be a good idea while your AC+ is still valid to pay the $99 and get a new refurbished phone from Apple.
