list items on desktop instead of icons

how do you list the items on the desktop as a list instead of icons.

You can't in the 'finder window' sense I dont think (??) but you could right click and hit view options, and change label position from bottom to right, achieve a similiar effect.

incase anyone else wants the same


Click on the Desktop and choose View | Show View Options from the menu
Slide Icon Size all of the way to the left
Slide the Grid Spacing all of the way to the right
Set Label position to Right


this will create a listview look.
