I read here that little snitch app can detect viruses/spyware/malware? How is this so? I have This app.

Quite simple actually. It all depends on what the program does. Viruses want to spread themselves, what better way than the internet? Weird unknown program trying to dial out? Little Snitch intercepts and asks you whether that is allowed. Same goes for spyware, after all someone wants that data... Malware can install spam servers, porn servers, botnets, etc. They all want to chat with the rest of the world. In other words, they all have to get through Little Snitch. Now it's your turn... Don't automatically approve of every program connecting to another computer. check what the program is and whether it would be normal for the program to call out to someone. If your freshly downloaded screensaver wants to dial out... Why? You draw the conclusions.

No, it doesn't. It tells you when an app is trying to connect to a remote server. If LS randomly alerts you to an app you haven't seen before trying to connect to a server with a strange name, you may have a trojan.

It's a network monitoring application, not a threat detector. It may detect and block a trojan/spyware from transmitting info out, but it will not tell you it's a bad program. Since there's no viruses on Mac is obviously can't help there and wouldn't if there was any.

And this is different from what I said how?
