Little Snitch / Traceroute

Been using Little Snitch for a while now....

all of a sudden its tellign me:

' The application "tracerout" wants to connect to xxx.xxx.xx.xxx using protocol raw-ip '

what does this mean? is it normal, is it spyware? What?

I tried to find it on the computer, but no joy.

traceroute is a system command used for network testing, etc.. It does no harm.

not that computer literate myself on a tech level, could you explain a bit more what its about, and why its happening?

its source might be tricky to identify....could be a syscall in an application or a cron job, or some other utility. But its harmless.

But to oversimplify traceroute - it shows you which stops a particular internet/network request takes on its way to its destinations.
