Live CD for use on an older Mac ?

I have a Mac Mini which began life as a Core Duo and was subsequently upgraded to be Core 2 Duo.

I'm trying to repurpose this mac into a VoIP server and it's really, really fighting back.

Any ideas if there's a Live CD or USB stick I can use to wipe the hard disk?

So far everything I've tried either results in

  • The OS or boot loader ignoring the inserted media
  • The OS or boot loader asking me to choose a CD-ROM boot type but then refusing to allow me to make a choice
  • Miscellaneous error
