Live conversion?

Hi.... I want to do a live convert ion from Avi to a file that will play on my Mac not a permanent conversion ? I use Air video to do this to my apple tv and it work sweet but i want to do it on my IMac .. Does any one Know how to do a live convert ion ????? HELP PLEASE.

Do you mean that you just want to be able to play an avi file without having to convert it first? If so, install Perian.
