Im trying to set up live translation on my AirPods Pro2.

I have downloaded the required languages but when I try to activate live translation I get a spoken message and pop up telling me that I need to download the languages, seems to be a loop that I can't get out of.

Anyone seeing the same or can offer advice ?

UK? Download the English (US) language and it'll work.
Make sure you choose English (UK) after though to get your chosen Siri voice, otherwise it'll be like a robot.

There may be more to setting it up than just downloading the languages. Try this…

Open the Translate app. Go to “Live” on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Set their language and your language. Then try pressing both AirPods stalks again. It works for me.

Had the same issue, looping screen in the translate app, restarted.

Tried downloading English US, Translate then redownloaded the existing Spanish and English UK packs.

Tested with my Spanish partner and the on screen translation was spot on, my replies in English translated perfect to Spanish.

The issue I had was Siri didn’t translate Spanish to English audibly in ear very well, skipping many words and sometimes just making a noise, not words. Reversed, my partner had Siri speaking Spanish audibly in ear with no issue. It seemed Siri audio struggled to keep up from Spanish to English, possibly due to the natural speed of the Spanish language. Hopefully future betas iron this out. Amazing if they can get it right.

Ideally it would play audio back to the other person instead of reading, I guess that could make the AirPods loop, however they should be able to separate the playback translation from live. I know there’s a playback icon, but it’s not a very natural way to converse.

Ultimately two people wearing AirPods link and it works both ways in ear without the screen.

The feature so far is great, and ChatGPT as a middleman in voice mode is also good. Hopefully Apple can bring a bit of their concept to a dual AirPod scenario, that would be perfect.
