The comment thread on the emoji article (https://www.macrumors.com/2021/07/15/emoji-14-candidates/) got rather spicy rather quickly, personally I enjoy the banter. Of course, the mods immediately deleted it lest the userbase dare to poke some fun at each other.

Let me ask a question:

Why not just delete the article entirely? It looks worse when you have a clearly non-political article with disabled comments, than no article at all.

edit: this probably belongs in "Site and Forum Feedback"... whoops.

Not surprised. I saw the direction it was headed.
It closed before I saw it. I was hoping to get in something snarky about the sound of one hand clapping.

Were people really getting that offensive talking about emojis?

Every last thread ever about new emoji starts with folks complaining nonsensically about Apple taking the time to add new emoji instead of fixing whatever the poster's pet bug is, before rapidly giving way to actual Nazis raging about whatever group is now getting represented in a new variant emoji.

Emoji's are a political topic now?

Sheesh

No clue how they plan to moderate this site over the long run moving forward.

This is now "moderation whack a mole", which is an un-winnable war.

Almost any possible viewpoint could be seen as political.

Politics is intertwined with life and it impacts all of our lives.
You can ignore politics, but it's always there and always having an impact on you no matter what.

And what is the problem with that? If the site is going to highlight an article about ridiculous cartoon items and some of the new ones make no sense whatsoever, some of the comments will certainly point this out. If it bothers some people, stay out of the comments section.
I’m only relating what I was seeing. I don’t think the site owner wants an adult rated site.

Ohhhhhh I get it now. I didn’t look close enough at the actual emojis but now I see the beer belly ones so I get the problem.

Almost everything is political now, or will be in short order. Even wanting to be able to repair your own computer, phone, car, tractor, washing machine, etc is politicized now. :( The mods were letting their political bias and favoritism show in PRSI, got roasted over it, and decided to shut PRSI down instead of having to answer for their actions. It's Arn's site, he can do as he pleases just like how Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc can do as they wish.

So true and so sad.
It's become impossible to talk about basically "anything" without this rearing its head.
