Loading OSX from a .dmg

I have a .dmg of OSX. But how do I use a .dmg to load the O/S?

Not to encourage illegal behavior, can you use the OS X disc image to reinstall the OS from an external harddrive?

Well actually there are two possibilities:

1) He/she downloaded it legally from ADC. In which case he/she can follow the instructions posted with the image. As they have posted this question then:

2) They have illegally downloaded it in which case they are i) exceptionally cheap as it's such a low cost release, ii) not going to get any help.
