Loading pics from iPhoto to SD card

I have a new intel mac and I'm trying to figure out how to load iphoto pictures to an empty but formatted 2Gbyte SD card. Either nothing happens or I get a message saying there isn't enough room on the SD card. Since my files are less than 15 Mbytes, I don't think it's a space problem. My iPhoto software is up to date--and this happens on multiple SD cards. How do I do this?
