Loading pix files

I am trying to transfer several pix files from my PC to my iMac Leopard. I burned the files on my PC to a CD, then inserted the CD in the iMac. However, I am not able to open them. I get message saying either "Cannot load this file" or "Error - 36."

What is the best way to transfer these files?
