So I've been searching, but all I get is answers on Home Sharing... not what I want.

I've finished ripping all my owned DVDs to digital, and am now looking into no longer buying physical discs - only iTunes/digital... BUT - what happens when a friend wants to borrow a movie?

For all of history, it's been fine to let a friend borrow a cassette/vhs/cd/dvd (at least I assume it's been fine!?), is there a way to do that with iTunes movies?

Can I burn them to DVD or something? Or just authorise their machine for that period of time etc.?

You can't, Apple's movies and videos are protected with DRM to prevent this.

You can transfer rentals between computers by using iTunes, provided they are on the same network and are authorized with the same Apple account (also works between iOS devices).

It is not possible unless you sign into your iTunes account on your friend's computer and authorize it to stream your purchased content.

I wouldn't recommend doing so though.
