Local Snapshots enabled for iMac

Local snapshots are enabled by default for my Late 2013 iMac (with a Sandisk SSD & external Time Machine drive). I can't disable local snapshots.

Is it the new default for all Macs?

I believe it’s a part of APFS. Why are you concerned about it, if I may ask?

"Time Machine in macOS High Sierra stores snapshots on every APFS-formatted, all-flash storage device in your Mac or directly connected to your Mac. Time Machine in earlier macOS versions stores snapshots only on the internal startup disk of Mac notebook computers."
