I'm trying to find the .ipsw file to jailbreak my iPod Touch 1G with the 3.0 firmware upgrade. Here's the deal, I've been searching the forums and everyone is saying the .ipsw file should be under:

>User>Library>iTunes>iPod Software Update

For some reason, I can't find the file here of anywhere else on the computer. I've used spotlight to search for .ipsw and nothing comes up. Am I missing something? Was I supposed to do something when I downloaded the 3.0 update for me to be able to see the .ipsw file?

And if I download a .ipsw file online, how big should that be? Shouldn't it be a few hundred MB? I found something online where it was something like 171 bytes. Is that legit?

Any help is much appreciated, thanks

Where did you download it to when you purchased the firmware? Or does it just upgrade your device after you pay? I would imagine after that it should be in the location you are looking. Strange.

I'm not sure what you are downloading (you need to purchase the firmware as far as I know), so 171k is def too small, it should be >280MB I believe.

If you download it from a site the ipsw file usually comes downloaded as a zip file which gets unzipped and put in the trash.

You need to go into the trash, retrieve the original zip file and change the extension from .ipsw.zip to just .ipsw

Then it will work.

If you've purchased the software update then it will be in the folder you described.
