Location Services, Motion Calibration always on

So you can now see in the status bar when system services are using the location service.
After I turned that on, I noticed that the location service icon was visible all the time and I went digging. I found out that the "motion calibration" was using the location service 100% of the time. If I turn it off, the icon goes away.

anybody else have this "issue"?
 
nope. i turned motion calibration off since day one and havent seen a need to have it on or even why location would be needed in order to calibrate it. usually, if its needed, ios will prompt you to enable it when you try to use an app where its needed. ill just wait until that happens. for now, its working fine without it.
 
that's my solution for now as well, but you have to wonder, what it is used for, when it's constantly on.
