Location Services - on or off??

when I'm abroad and want to keep my iphone bill down, I know that I need to disable data roaming.
do I need to switch off location services as well or does this not count as data download?

I think it only uses data when you are using the GPS or the camera wants to use your current location

I believe turning off data roaming will disable location services as well, though it would probably not hurt to disable it manually.
