Anytime I use my iPhone's active gps tracking or location based tracking my phones battery drains way to quick. If the apple watch needs to use the gps from phone does that mean a worse battery life for iphone users utilizing the apple watch?

But you arent using GPS all the time...only when a tracking app or navigation app requires it which would be the case without an Apple Watch anyway.

but the one of the key focuses of the watch is to track your lifestyle--it will utilize an app for that most likely utilizing gps as well.

Lifestyle does not mean tracking your location. You will only use GPS when doing things like tracking a run or navigation. This is the same as with the iPhone.

Lifestyle is more about using accelerometer and HR tracking.
