hey guys...can someone tell me what traffic in system services is for?

I wasn't running any apps that required gps, but noticed that my phone had the gps and was purple. Upon checking, it was this setting in system services...

I was just wondering how often this if active throughout the day....??? and if so, how much would this drain the battery??
