Lock screen goes black

On my MacBook Pro, if I use the "lock screen" option from the Apple menu, the screen immediately switches to the lock screen as you would expect. However after 5 seconds the screen goes black as if it is going to sleep.

Anyone else have this same behavior and know if it can be stopped?
