On 16.0.1, I have a Lock Screen set to change the wallpaper daily. It doesn't change at all. If I set it to change hourly it changes as it should, but not daily. Initially on the beta this worked as designed, but now it doesn't change. I even deleted that wallpaper, created a new one, added new pictures, set to change daily - doesn't work.

Any one else?

Just updating: I reset my phone and restored it from back up. Issue persists. Wallpapers do not change daily. The only thing left is to reset and erase and then not restore from back up...and I'm not doing that. Apple is a bit of a mess with iOS 16.

OK…am I dumb? Or is this photo shuffle on iOS just flat out gutter trash at this stage? iOS 16.2 here Apple…

I created a photo album called “wallpapers.”

I put 5 photos in there.

I created a new wallpaper, photo shuffle, select photos manually, and selected the 5 photos in that folder.

I set the shuffle frequency to daily.

It NEVER changes.

If I set it to on tap or hourly, it works fine. But daily??? Nothing.

What in the actual F is the deal? Has anyone else had this issue? Or am I somehow a moron??

I don't use that feature, so guessing here but "Daily" and a small sample size means not going to be really random and might be running into bad luck in that the same screen is coming up. If more frequent, will have less chance of repeats.

Attached is ten random numbers when 1..5 and 1..50. Going to get repeats when capped at 5 (2 and 3 not getting much love in this sample), more random with 50 but even then got a couple of repeats.

Interesting. I hadn't thought of that...but...if I were to plot my findings so far it would be REALLY bad luck. Maybe I should play the powerball.

Day 1 - Pic 1
Day 2 - Pic 1
*manual change*
Day 3 - Pic 2
Day 4 - Pic 2
*manual change, and a big dramatic gesture of why the hell isn't this working*
Day 5 - Pic 4
Day 6 - Pic 4
*this post*

Maybe I'll set it and forget it for a week. If it chooses the same pic randomly for 7 straight days there's definitely a problem.

Also - if this is the case - a big WTF to Apple for not programming a shuffle to avoid the same pic that's active. I mean...come on lol.

I haven’t used daily either. My hourly works great.
Same here on the hourly…but it’s too much for me. I have a daily update on my mac that works amazing. But this? Come on.

Question: if I go to my photo shuffle it continues to say “processing”. If I let it sit there until the phone locks, it just closes out my new wallpaper it’s creating. Is this something that works in the background or what? I only have like 50 photos on my phone…I back them up elsewhere. Why would this process not work? And could it affect the daily shuffle not working (and not the others)? Seems weird but curious.

I just don’t understand why this isn’t working.

I had that processing message for a week or so after I got the new iPhone. It eventually went away. Did you just get your iPhone?
Eh…I got it on 12/22/22. So it is new, but def older than a week. Why would it take so long to process, especially with so few photos?

Apple has a different definition of “shuffle” and it’s one of the things I hate most about my iPhone.

If I pick a playlist and hit shuffle, it plays the tracks in a random order. Cool. If I hit shuffle on the same playlist the next time, same shuffle. I get to listen to the same tracks in the same order ever time. DUMB.

The photo shuffle works the same way.

That is dumb. I don't use Apple Music. I test drove it and Spotify for 3 months each, and Spotify was a clear winner IMO.

BUT....to turn on shuffle and then just never change the photo day after day? I'm thinking that can't be called shuffle no matter who designed the algorithm. I could live with the same order of the pics if they actually changed each day!!!

The photo shuffle feature works as (I believe) it’s supposed to for me. Are you selecting the wallpapers using this button in the Wallpaper settings?

Yep, all the photos in there are selected. It shows the ones I selected when I created the wallpaper and put there. If I set to hourly, it cycles through the pics. If I set to daily, I wake up to the same pic day after day.

I'm pretty savvy with tech, iProducts, Mac, etc. And I'm at a total loss as far as understanding why this isn't working.

I see. I’ve never tried the daily schedule. I’ll give it a whirl and submit a ticket if I see the same behavior.
