I use lock screen widgets to open a few apps and web pages I use all the time.

If I turn on always on display I have to touch screen to turn on then touch widget to open.

If always on display is off Face ID opens straight away and just have to touch widget to open.

I understand this is petty but I love the instant access to my apps or web pages.
 
It's exactly the same, no matter if AOD is on or off. Touch/activate the screen - tap the widget.
