Locked files... Preview?!

So I uploaded some pics to my MBP using Image Capture (I only like to select a few pics off the whole men card). I then proceeded to view them in Finder, and some needed to be rotated, but every single time I rotated a picture a drop down menu appeared asking me to unlock or duplicate the photo. This never happened in Snow Leopard; what is this and how do I stop this nonsense?

Go to Time Machine system prefs, options, and uncheck "lock documents after last edit."

Hm I'm surprised the fix resides in the Time Machine tab...

Anyways okay I disabled the option... but will this come back to bite me in the future do you think? I don't fully understand the implications of this feature
