Hello, recently I bought a new Macbook Air and sold my old Macbook. On my previous mac I had time machine running withe an external HDD. On my new MBA I decided to run fresh install rather than migrating all my stuff since I wanted to get rid of some junk files. However, I was no worried about loosing important stuff since I had my time machine backup.

The deal now is that I want to get my old photos into my new Mac and when I plug in my HDD the folders that contain those pictures are locked and I cannot change permissions to read them or to write & read.

How can I access those folders that are locked on my external drive since they were saved with a "different user"?

I have zero experience with Time Machine or the files made/saved by it, but...

... I'd suggest this:
1. Mount the external drive on the desktop
2. Click on its icon ONE time, then type "command-i" (eye) to bring up the get info box
3. At the bottom of get info, click the lock and enter your password
4. In "sharing and permissions", put a check into the box "ignore ownership on this volume".
5. Close get info

Can you access the folders/files after doing the above?
