locked out of Macbook

My son left me his old MacBook Pro but he forgot the name and password for it. Is there any way to get in it?

Do you have the restore DVDs? If so you can boot to the DVD...wait for it to get to the install screen. The click on the menus at the top. One of them will let you either change the admin password or create a new user account or change the existing user accounts password. Hope that helps.
